Brunswick 40 'Helmsman' ES

Brunswick 40 'Helmsman' ES

The yachting Fears

Hand-built in Britain.

The Brunswick 40 'Helmsman' ES joins it's counterpart in the Redcliff family as Fears' second model to carry the Endurance Specification designation. The 'Helmsman' ES is yachting-designed and has been created specifically to elegantly cater for the needs of those who find themselves regularly at the helm of a yacht or boat.

  • Case: 40mm, stainless steel, fully brushed, 20mm lug width
  • Dial: Bright White, textured matte lacquer, blue printing (and Grade A Super-LumiNova®)
  • Strap: Sailcloth white, FKM rubber (w/ matching brushed buckle)
  • Movement: LJP G101. time only, automatic, 68hr power reserve
  • Water Resistance: 200 metres (20 ATM)

Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick 40 'Helmsman' ES takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924 and seen here in it's sportiest execution.

CASE

The Brunswick 40 'Helmsman' ES’ elegant yet sporty 40mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces. The case’s glancing curves are machined from 316L stainless steel, to a level usually reserved for precious metals and in this example features an entirely brushed finish to reduce distracting reflections from the sun or glints from the water.

Complementing the case is our bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding screw down crown that has been signed with the Fears Cypher and this particular model has been uprated to an enhanced 200m (20 ATM) of water resistance (to ensure soaking in open water will have no impact on performance).

Caseback

The Brunswick 40 'Helmsman' ES is offered exclusively with an open exhibition caseback, offering and an unobstructed view of the finely decorated movement (and custom Fears Blue rotor adorned with the Bristol flower).

DIAL

The Brunswick 40 'Helmsman' ES' dial has been designed for the needs when yachting with a matte white textured surface (to reduce glare) set against Marine Blue elsewhere on the dial to provide the highest possible contrast (aiding legibility).

The hand-applied numerals (where the 12, 3, 6 and 9 hour markers are realised in numerical form with the remainder as indices) are milled from a block of brass before being diamond polished, coated in Blue PVD and then filled with Grade A Super-LumiNova®.

HANDS

The Brunswick 40 'Helmsman' ES' distinctive ‘Fears’-shaped hands are milled from solid brass and polished with a diamond tipped tool. This results in a highly polished surface that catches the light, giving excellent legibility in low-light conditions.

These hands are finished in a coating of Blue PVD (that perfectly matches the polished numerals) and then filled with the same Grade A Super-LumiNova® as the applied indices.

MOVEMENT

The Brunswick 40 'Helmsman' ES is powered by a customised Swiss-made, automatic La Joux-Perret G101 movement. Winding itself when worn on the wrist this movement boasts a generous power reserve of 68 hours and a decorated winding rotor.

STRAP

The Brunswick 40 'Helmsman' ES is fitted to an FKM rubber strap in Sailcloth White (finished with contrast stitching in a marine blue) textured in the mould to look like it's woven. The application of FKM rubber retains the classic aesthetic of sailcloth whilst modernising the feel and durability which results in a strap that is supremely comfortable but also extremely hard-wearing.

Lined in a waterproof rubber and is finished with Fears' bespoke pin buckle (featuring the Fears Cypher) that has been brushed to perfectly match the case finish.

Customise

You can customise your Brunswick 40 'Helmsman' ES with any strap designed for a 20mm lug width, including any strap from our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.

Please Note

Due to the different style of finishing on this particular case our bespoke 5-Link Brunswick bracelet is not compatible with this ES model.

INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED

Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.

AMOS BOX

All Fears watches are presented in a slim, rectangular, wooden box made of solid ash and stained in our bespoke shade of blue. This luxury box was inspired by traditional slim Fears watch boxes used in the past, in which the watch lies flat. Recognising the company's heritage, we called this box the Amos, after the names of both the 2nd and 3rd Managing Directors.

The top of the box is discreetly engraved with the Fears logo and features a gentle bevel around its edges, whilst the interior is lined in genuine cream suede. The box is secured by a polished chrome push button, keeping your watch safe and secure.

ENGRAVED PERSONAL TO YOU

Fears offers an engraving service whereby a watch can be made personal to its new owner. We work with one of the UK's leading 3D laser engravers who can engrave initials, a date, or a special verse on your watch.
